Children & Adolescents

Children

I work with children whose issues include ADHD, ASD and anxiety. Some children face the challenges of divorce or other serious family issues and losses.  I use a mixture of play and talk in working with children.  The relationship I build with the child and their parents is key to the therapy.  I keep in close contact with parents and have regular parent sessions. I also value collaboration with teachers and other important adults in the child’s life.

Adolescents

Teens often need help dealing with big transitions at this stage of life.  Many suffer from various degrees of social anxiety as social interaction becomes more complex and they are expected to manage it independently. Relying on parents for help is often filled with conflict.  I stay with the issues relevant to the teen and provide support in exploring their concerns.

Couples Therapy

My work with couples uses the tools of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to assist couples in finding greater support and satisfaction in their relationship.  EFT is an experiential and systemic approach that has been well researched and validated.  The approach has theoretical roots in attachment research. I help each partner to consider the emotional experiences underlying rigid patterns of interaction and help create new bonding experiences.

Individual Therapy

I use a client centered relational approach to help my patients address the conflicts and stressors in their lives.  I take the time to build a trusting relationship toward this end.  I frequently address issues of anxiety in home and work situations and the struggles of parenting, (especially when children have special needs).
